Private and Public Sector Labor Unions
Midwest Labor Union Lawyers
At Schuchat, Cook & Werner, in St. Louis, the lawyers in our Labor and Employment Group are nationally recognized for our work serving labor unions. Since the firm’s beginning in 1947, we have been at the forefront of the issues confronting unions. We have the skill and experience to assist unions in every aspect of their operation. Because of our work in this field, some of our attorneys have been admitted to honorary organizations, including the American College of Labor and Employment Attorneys, and have served as chairs of the American Bar Association’s labor law section and committees, and on the AFL-CIO’s Lawyers Coordinating Committee.
Private-Sector Labor Unions
The firm represents private-sector labor union clients as well as 501 (c), (3) and (4) organizations committed to social justice causes. We regularly advise union clients about organizational campaigns, contract negotiations, unfair labor practices, picketing, strikes, lockouts, internal union governance, relations with members, prevailing wage issues, wage and hour issues, campaign finance and election law, and other matters.
We assist clients with National Labor Relations Board charges throughout Missouri, Illinois and the Midwest and also have appeared in federal and state courts, and administrative agencies to defend unions against charges brought by their members. In addition, our attorneys regularly give presentations and workshops to union representatives, stewards, and members on effective grievance processing and presentation of arbitrations, picketing and hand-billing and new developments in the law.
Public-Sector Labor Unions
Our firm is at the cutting edge of the movement to expand and protect public employee workplace rights. The firm successfully represented public-sector unions in two 2007 landmark Missouri Supreme Court decisions that greatly expanded public sector collective bargaining rights. State and local governments and school districts are amongst the fastest growing employers in the country and we are committed to protecting workers’ rights by providing the highest quality legal support to public-sector labor unions.
